What is liquid Marijuana and how dangerous is it?

What is liquid marijuana?

These days, marijuana is about more than just using the same old flower form, or baking bud and leaf into a batch of special brownies. Particularly for younger age demographics, liquid marijuana is becoming increasingly popular. Also known as liquid THC, liquid pot, hash oil and honey butane oil, liquid marijuana is a super-concentrated marihuana resin. The process to make liquid marijuana, using dried cannabis and butane, is considered very dangerous.

The rise in popularity of liquid THC is likely due to a combination of factors: legalizing weed and advanced methods for THC extraction. In Canada, only medicinal marijuana in the form of dried cannabis remains legalized. However, in U.S. states like Colorado and Washington State, where more liberal legalization has also led to commercialization and a regulated cannabis industry, there are large-scale licensed producers of marijuana that continue to refine the process of resin production, using higher grade materials and more professional equipment.

Users of medical grade liquid marijuana can upload THC e-liquid cartridges into a marijuana vaporizer pen. The cartridges contain the marijuana oil, which is highly potent and can cause even experienced users (with a high THC tolerance) to have some of the adverse, acute psychosis side effects of marijuana use. Another way to ingest hash oil is smoking, by coating or “dabbing” the oil onto rolling papers. Finally, some diehards even eat it.

When vaporized, the marijuana e-liquid is a more discrete way of inhaling pot, without the skunky smell which may draw unwanted attention, or attach itself to clothing and linger in any immediate or enclosed space.

But aren’t there other forms of ‘liquid marijuana’?

Yes, a liquid marijuana drink is another way of ingesting marijuana. Soaking cannabis in alcohol (of at least 80 proof) is a method for making marijuana tonics or liquid marijuana shots that combine effects of cannabis and alcohol. However, because of the boosted popularity of hash oil, many people who say “liquid marijuana” probably mean the refined resinous substance made using dried cannabis and butane.
